Lastly, there's The Evil Within 2, which takes what its predecessor did and improves on it in just about every way. This sequel brought improved combat, a well-implemented open world setting, and a surprisingly-engaging story. These combine to make The Evil Within 2 something special.

It's one of the very few recent AAA horror games that will terrify and disturb on multiple occasions. There are terrifying foes littered throughout the world, each of which offers their own kind of challenge. There are formidable ones that require the right amount of bullets, forcing you to react quickly and shoot strategically with your limited ammunition.

Alternatively, there are the truly haunting presences where the only strategy is to hide and hope they never find you. Whatever the case, gameplay is responsive, shooting is tremendously satisfying (particularly on those critical hits), and all of it is surrounded by a strong sense of atmosphere.

To top it all off, the story presented here hits home on an emotional level. Rather than being a standard case gone wrong, this is a quest for a man to find his daughter in a terrifying, unpredictable world. It's an impressively-balanced title that warrants any gamer's attention, whether they're a horror fan or not.
