10 Overhyped Video Game Storylines That Actually Went Nowhere

5. Diego's Potential - Far Cry 6

As is typically the case with Far Cry games, the most memorable thing about Far Cry 6 is its villain, Anton Castillo, the iron-fisted dictator of Yara.

However, as much as Giancarlo Esposito dominates every scene he's in, there is another aspect of the game that could've elevated its story beyond the usual Far Cry formula, had it not been completely nipped in the bud—the fate of Anton's son, Diego.

Diego plays an integral part in the story, being an heir to Anton's seat of power who slowly grows to sympathize with the Yaran revolutionaries.

You spend a lot of time watching as Anton and the main character, Dani, try to sway Diego towards their personal plans for Yara's future, and the game builds up the expectation that this back-and-forth will culminate with Diego becoming the new leader of his father's country and either change it for the better or become another cruel dictator.

However, in the end, neither version of the story comes to fruition, as Diego is simply killed off in the game's finale, and you just have to sit there and wonder why you even bothered investing your time and attention into his story arc.
