1. Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King

Save the Kingdom of Blossom as Lily, Knight of the Rose, in this The Legend of Zelda-inspired action adventure game. Though it has many similarities with Zelda, Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King is not a simple clone; it has unique, charming qualities, and over 15 hours of gameplay.

One of these charming qualities is the way that the story is presented to players. Abandoning a traditional plot structure, Blossom Tales has a grandfather tell a story to his grandchildren, Chrys and Lily, about a knight that's on a mission to save her kingdom.

Occasionally, the grandchildren will interrupt their grandfather's story, and this creates interesting moments in the game as choices they create are presented.

Though the story and retro art style are charming, the gameplay is by no means easy or simple. The dungeons that Lily the knight works her way through contain difficult puzzles, and there are plenty of strategic elements to the combat. Blossom Tales: The Sleeping Knight is a perfect example of an eShop hidden gem: it may take inspiration from one of Nintendo's big names, but the game has its own unique qualities that make it a more than worthwhile purchase.
