Anyone who has put a couple of hours into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will have undoubtedly stumbled upon a strange-looking orb in a chest in one of the early game locations.

The booming voice of the Daedric God Meridia and her now-infamous and un-skippable 'a new hand touches the beacon' monologue might be a source of infuriating to more veteran players now, but it also grants access to one of the most overpowered weapons in the entire game.

Completing Meridia's "The Break of Dawn" quest will see players rewarded with the sword Dawnbreaker, a unique weapon with a special potency against the undead. The sword has a base damage of 12 (just one less than an Ebony alternative), can benefit from perks into the one-handed skill tree and comes complete with two unique abilities: burning undead enemies for 10 points and occasionally causing a fiery explosion that will destroy any other undead baddies.

Not only will Dawnbreaker make mincemeat of any low-level Draugr and Vampires, but it is also a quick hack to overcoming some of the heaviest-hitting classes and bosses these undead opponents can produce.

No weapon in the game has an ability like this which, coupled with how difficult and common some of those Draugr bosses can be, firmly nestles Dawnbreaker in the 'game-breaking' group.
