10 Perfect Short Video Games To Get You Through A Gaming Lull

9. Max: The Curse Of Brotherhood

Originally unveiled at last year's E3 as part of the Xbox One's gaming lineup, you might be forgiven for writing Max: The Curse Of Brotherhood off as a kids game. The plot in particular might sound like something you've seen before on a Saturday morning cartoon (Max has wished his brother away and is now on an adventure to rescue him) but there's plenty for the modern day grown up to enjoy in Max too. For starters, it's a pretty clever puzzler, combining platforming with a unique gameplay tool to create some interesting puzzles. The magic marker that Max acquires allows him to draw lines of various elements to aid his progress through the game - for example, he can draw earth towers to help him ascend to higher levels. The combinations of these powers with the aforementioned platforming makes for some pretty fun gameplay experiences, especially in the game's dramatic chase sequences where you need to be quick with the old marker pen to help Max evade enemies and traps. It's also brilliantly styled graphically; it's easily comparable with Pixar's finest outputs. You might find Max a touch short but if you're looking for something fun but quick to get you out of a gaming funk, you could do a lot worse.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
