Since we’ve brought it up, there’s no way we’re getting through a video about wonderful stories told in video games without mentioning The Last of Us and I think if I tried you guys would quite rightly tear me apart in the comments.

From the very first moment The Last of Us grabs you. Its world, its characters, its unique apocalypse and how those within it have adapted is such an engrossing concept and every little piece of it works.

The emotions of the characters you embody and encounter are so authentically presented and delivered. The phenomenal performances, the story that winds through a fairly long period in time in a brutal game world but never overstays its welcome, and the characterisation of its heroes is almost without comparison. These elements succeeding the way they do ensures that you feel Joel’s desperation, his growing affection for Ellie, and every twinge of fear that death is just around the corner.

Culminating in one of the most impactful endings in video games that is as delightfully divisive as it is earned, The Last of Us is just narratively flawless end to end.
