10 Platinum Gaming Trophies That Were Literal Torture

6. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

While it got off to a terrible start in 2014, Final Fantasy XIV would eventually claw its way back to popularity among its fanbase with A Realm Reborn, which switched up and improved countless aspects of the original.

It's gone on to become a highly popular MMO, but with the game having drastically expanded in scale, that also brings with it a crushing difficulty for completionists. The game asks a lot from its players and the fact that it's an online title only heightens the restrictive nature of earning trophies. The biggest factor however is the time you're expected to spend grinding.

A Realm Reborn makes this list mostly for the sheer amount of time everything takes. By giving the player so much to do in its world, the game makes earning a platinum a seriously monotonous process.

By psnprofiles.com's estimate, it would take upwards of 900 hours to unlock everything. The most agonising trophies to earn come through defeating 10,000 enemies, clearing 100 instanced raids and most difficult of all, carrying out all activities 1,000 times.

Sufficed it to say, you'll have to be wholly committed to the title for an extended period of time if you want any chance to earn that platinum.
