Days Gone is probably Sony's most fascinating exclusive to release this generation, but not for the reasons developer Sony Bend would have liked. You see, Days Gone released to critics as a pretty broken game. Through patches, the overall experience was improved drastically, but by then the reviewers had already scorched the game.
And yet, it continues to sell fantastically. Sony has not given official word on how much the game has sold, but it's still near the top of the charts and estimates have it somewhere around 3 million copies sold through. For context, that's more than titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Infamous Second Son, and comparable to games like Gears 4 and Assassin's Creed: Origins.
It's a great example of gamers and critics being on completely different wavelengths. Critical consensus was that Days Gone was a poor game, littered with bugs and ham-fisted story-telling. While gamers agreed it was a fun open-world with few bugs, and a fascinating story. In this instance, the gamers have won the day because a sequel is undoubtedly going to be made. That's great news because Sony Bend is a super talented studio and a sequel could be something special. Mark the calendar for 2023.
