10 Pointless Super Mario Power Up Clones

6. Life Mushroom + Life Up Heart

Mario Cape Leaf
Nintendo

In Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Mario has three bars on his health. If he is hit three times without having his health replenished, he will lose a life. Luckily, you can regain health by picking up coins strewn around each level.

If you obtain a Life Mushroom, your maximum health will increase from three bars to six. If your health drops below four bars, your overall health will be once again capped to three.

In Super Mario Odyssey, the Life-Up Heart seems to be a reskin of the Life Mushroom. The only difference is that if you obtain a Life Mushroom in the Galaxy series while the player has four or more bars, you will gain an extra life.

Since Super Mario Odyssey doesn't have a life system, you will instead obtain ten extra coins if you touch a Life Up Heart while under the effects of another Life Up Heart.

The Life Up Heart is the only conventional power up in the game so it's possible Nintendo created it so the company could advertise Odyssey as having a "unique power up". If you play the game, this power up is only "new" based on appearance, not purpose.
