3. Egg + Red Shell
The Red Shell is one of the most terrifying projectiles in the Mario Kart series. When used, the Red Shell locks onto the closest driver in front and smashes into them. It is simple in concept but astoundingly effective.
Although new items are introduced into each game, it gets harder each time to make them distinctive. Mario Kart 8 only had four new items but two of them are incredibly similar to power ups in previous games.
Probably the best example of this is the Egg, which can be used by Yoshi and Birdo in Mario Kart: Double Dash. When fired, the Egg locks onto the the driver in front just like the Red Shell. Upon collision, the Egg will burst open to reveal three random items.
Sadly, this item isn't as handy as you'd think. If Bananas or Green Shells burst out of the Egg, you can crash into them.
Even if the Egg drops a handy item like a Mushroom, your opponents can pick it up just as easily as you. Since you can end up helping your enemies or hurting yourself with this item, the Egg shouldn't have been included.
