10 Pointless Super Mario Power Up Clones

4. Propeller Box + Propeller Mushroom

Most Super Mario games showcase a brand-new power up, which often plays a fundamental role in the gameplay. The item in question in New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the Propeller Mushroom, which can be found in the very first level.

When collected, the player can spin in the air by shaking the Wii Remote. As the player glides down, you can slow the descent by shaking the remote or you can accelerate the descent by pressing the down button.

It could have been so easy to make the Propeller Mushroom a slightly modified version of another flying power up like the Super Leaf or the Cape Feather.

Instead, the developers made the item distinguishable enough to stand out on its own. Not only is the Propeller Mushroom really fun to use, it's crucial to defeat the final boss.

Two years later, an item was introduced in Super Mario 3D Land called the Propeller Box. This box has the same purpose as the Propeller Mushroom except it can only be used three times. Since it has no other differences, it's strange that Nintendo bothered to make it.
