10 Pointless Video Game Reboots NOBODY Asked For

6. SimCity (2013)

Overview: In 2013, the first major SimCity game was released a decade after the last: SimCity 4. This new title acted as a reboot, and was simply named SimCity. Before it released, it looked like the best SimCity yet. It even had a brand new engine that was developed just to make everything run better than ever.

What could possibly go wrong?

Why It Was Pointless: Remember how Need for Speed required an internet connection at all times?

SimCity was exactly the same but much more problematic. When the game came out, Origin (EA's distribution platform at the time) received a high volume of traffic due to how many people that were trying to download it. This resulted in network outages, and lots of them.

The game was unplayable on launch and remained borderline unplayable for weeks (and then months) afterward. The game's developers, Maxis, had to supply frequent updates just to make the game workable, eventually resulting in a patching-in offline mode.

SimCity 2013 remains the most recent major SimCity, but its reputation as the once-unplayable game persists as well. You can't even mention the problematic title without reminding gamers of what happened on March 6, 2013 - the day SimCity took a steep nosedive it has yet to recover from.
