10 Pointless (Yet Awesome) Character Abilities In Video Games

8. Gymnastics - Tomb Raider

The original Tomb Raider games weren’t all that complex. You ran, you jumped, you, well, raided tombs, all in the stiffest way possible because this was the glorious era of early 3D game design and controlling Lara felt like that bit in Friends where Ross tries to get his sofa up the stairs.

But you could include some extra acrobatics by holding a button to elegantly climb up from ledges and swan dive into water. The former move didn’t make climbing easier, but it certainly did look cool, and was damn impressive back in the day.

The swan dive move, on the other hand, seems like it was included entirely to kill Lara in the most gruesome ways. Watch videos of some of YouTube's crueller Let's Plays making the game's hero 10-point her way to death:The crunch it makes. The way her body just... falls. It's horrific.

Born in Theatre, sits at a Computer. After over a decade of tinkering with Video Editing software, Rich gets to spend his precious time editing whatever's thrown at him. Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
