10 Pokémon Games You've (Probably) Never Played

3. Pokémon Card GB2: Great Rocket Dan-Sanjo!

For most 90’s kids, Pokémon cards were a staple of their childhood, and I’m proud to say that I got my Mewtwo when I went to see Pokémon: The First Movie. Although I must admit, as much as I collected the cards, I don’t think I ever actually played a match.

Released in March 2001 by Hudson Soft and Creatures, this sequel to the Game Boy Colour exclusive was only available in Japan and was the first and only time a Pokémon game was solely published by The Pokémon Company.

The gameplay followed that of the first game, traveling the in-game world, defeating the Battle Masters of the original locations and of the new location (GR Island). After defeating all of which they may challenge the final big bad boss, King Biruritchi.

The game built on mechanics in the original, adding in things like a training mode, a deck diagnostics system to evaluate your chosen cards and a new villain in the form of Team Great Rocket. The game also included more cards from the new set (Team Rocket) as well as cards only found in vending machines in Japan and the creatively titled “Pokémon Trading Card Game Instructional Video Pack”.

A lover of video games, Star Wars, and cereal. Thinks Starfox Adventures was really good.
