10 Pokémon Inspired By Real-World Mythological Creatures
2. Xerneas, Yveltal, And Zygarde Are Eikþyrnir, Hrsvelgr, And Nhggr, Respectively.
The legendary trio of Kalos, comprised Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde, represent three distinct and powerful Norse demigods. Xerneas is considered to be the Life Pokémon.
Emitting his signature Geomancy via stag-like horns. The Fairy-typed monster glows seven different colors and emits life energy. Xerneas is roughly based on Eikþyrnir, another beautiful stag from Norse mythology, which stands proudly upon Valhalla.
Yveltal, a Dark and Flying-type member of the Aura trio, is the perfect counterpart of Xerneas. The Destruction Pokémon is all about the Dark Aura, absorbing the life force from everything it can with its signature Oblivion Wing attack. Given its connection to the other members of the Aura trio, Yveltal could easily be influenced by Hrsvelgr, a huge eagle, who’s mighty wings make the wind blow.
Finally, we have Zygarde, who basically plays big brother to the aforementioned Legendary Pokemons and only makes an appearance when the natural order of Xerneas and Yveltal are thrown off.
The Dragon/Ground-type signature moves include Land’s Wrath and Thousand Waves, if that gives you any indication of its powers. Similar to Zygarde’s first Forme, Norse god Nhggr is also a serpent-like monster.
