10 Popular Video Game Series' That Completely Forgot Who They Were
7. Final Fantasy
It's a tad harsh to declare that Final Fantasy's glory days are long gone but there's a growing number of people who support this viewpoint. At the very least, many would agree that the series has been declining since VI and VII, even though there are still some great games to be found in the series. Even the most recent additions - the XIII trilogy - have various redeeming factors, despite the majority writing them off instantly. Every Final Fantasy game varies from the previous in some manner but the biggest change the series saw was with the arrival of XI and XIV - the two MMO entries. The venture was fairly hit and miss to say the least; XI maintained steady player numbers but XIV launched to horrific reviews and feedback. In fact, XIV was pulled entirely and relaunched months later under the title "A Realm Reborn". Nice cover there, Square! A look to the future indicates that even more change is coming to Final Fantasy too. Trailers for Final Fantasy XV highlight a more action-RPG style of combat, far removed from the Active Time Battle system (previously a staple of the series). It's drawn comparisons to spin-off-of-sorts Kingdom Hearts; truth be told, a Final Fantasy game using Kingdom Hearts' excellent combat system would not be a bad idea at all. Final Fantasy continues to be a series that evolves and redefines; but it remains to be seen for just how much longer.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
