10 Popular Video Game Series' That Completely Forgot Who They Were

6. Devil May Cry

Originally conceived as Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry's atmospheric tones and ultra-stylish gameplay grew into a fully-fledged series of its own; almost rivaling Capcom's premier franchise for popularity. The first game introduced us to the world of Devil May Cry with a beautifully Gothic location; a series of awesome combo moves to utilise; and increasingly gigantic bosses who required immense patience and even more skill to best. At the center of the series was the protagonist Dante. Half-human, half-demon, all-style; fans quickly grew to love Dante, thanks to his sharp wit and fearlessness, even in the face of Hell's most depraved creations. He's perfectly suited to a game as over-the-top as Devil May Cry; without his character, the series would be so much worse. So when Capcom announced their decision to reboot the Devil May Cry series with a new design for Dante... Well, let's just say the reaction wasn't positive. People hated the new Dante... really, really hated him. Not since the introduction of Metal Gear Solid 2's Raiden has a fanbase turned on a character so quickly. Despite the changes to the game largely being for the better, Capcom chose to abandon much of what made Devil May Cry a beloved series; for many, that was a game-breaking decision.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
