Being one of the most celebrated games of all time, Final Fantasy VII has spawned spin-offs, remakes, remasters, prequels, and movies. And of course, it's also inspired a few hoaxes. Although the rumours about saving Aerith or having Sephiroth join your party are well-known, let's look at one that didn't get as much attention.

Throughout the first half, Cloud repeatedly mentions how he worked alongside Sephiroth while he was enlisted with SOLDIER. Over time, Cloud realises many of his memories around this period belong to his friend, Zack Fair.

Supposedly, the elusive ex-SOLDIER member can be located in Sector 5 in the Midgar sewers. On the left, there's a chamber containing a clone of Sephiroth. If you try to interact with the clone, Aerith says she's too weak to heal him.

Since the person inside the chamber can't be seen, it was theorised he wasn't a Sephiroth clone at all, but a heavily weakened Zack. If Aerith was levelled up enough, it was hypothesised she could use her powers to cure him. 

Although it's an interesting idea, there's nothing to back it up.
