10 Problems With Destiny 2 Nobody Wants To Admit

3. The Story Is A Massive Wasted Opportunity

Of all the major reasons to reinvest in Destiny as a 'content platform' or one of gaming's biggest triple-A franchises, the story was front and centre for solo players.

Showing us the cutscene-heavy opening mission in the beta, the wool was suitably placed over the public's eyes, as this 'type' of level is nowhere to be seen in the rest of the campaign. Literally, you get the occasional cutscene in between missions where The Speaker is shown being interrogated by the hulking Ghaul, but once even he has fallen to the ground, that's it.

There's none of the fun comic book-esque tone shown in that first mission, no interstitial scenes tying gameplay together or highlighting what other characters are up to in pivotal parts of the story. Save for one specific tank sequence (the other tank mission doesn't even let you fire a cannon), that's also it for mission variety.

Over in 4-6 hours at most, Destiny 2's 'story' begins and ends with 'stop the big evil alien', before showing a cliffhanger ending that practically says "Stick around for the Expansion Pass/Destiny 3!"

Seriously, is this really enough to warrant what will be such a passionate defence of the game in the comments below?
