10 Progressive Characters Who Prove Video Games Aren't Bigoted

8. Kung Jin - Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat might not be a series well known for little more than pulverising and tearing opponents limb from limb, however, it€™s latest foray into the fighting genre, Mortal Kombat X, brought the series kicking and screaming into the 21st century. It was a subtle addition, but during a story mode cut scene, Kung Jin voices concerns to Raiden on joining the Shaolin Monks, worried they won€™t accept him. Raiden replies: €œThey care only about what is in your heart. Not whom your heart desires.€ It may seem like a minute detail but this subtle declaration toward Kung Jin€™s sexuality was a positive move that helped Mortal Kombat reassert its relevance in the modern market and, considering that much of the fighting genres own market is made up of teenagers, it gave them an openly gay role model, who can also tear out your eyes. A very positive move on NeatherRealms behalf.
