10 Promising 2020 Video Games You Must Consider

1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

journey to a savage planet
Nintendo

Of all the games here, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has probably received the most marketing, but there is a fear that it might have reached a glass ceiling. It’s so unlike most games out there (rewards come slowly, zero violence, lack of distinct objectives) that the worry is the fanbase might have hit its peak.

As the title’s first release on the Switch, there’s a lot of hope that this could be its biggest ever. It certainly worked that way for Mario, Zelda and Smash, and even Pokémon looks set for a stellar launch despite some negative headlines.

Animal Crossing though, with its cutesy ways, lack of appeal to hardcore gamers and muted marketing so far, does not look set to follow a similar trajectory. Despite the game looking as engrossing as ever, offering more possibilities and giving a wider scope than ever before, Animal Crossing isn’t getting the attention it deserves.

Once the Christmas releases are out of the way, we might see Nintendo pushing a little harder. Then again, we might also see a lot more games be pushed forward, and Animal Crossing might get lost in the crowd once more.
