10 Promising Video Game Sequels Stuck In Development Hell

5. Bayonetta 3

System Shock 3
Nintendo

Bayonetta has been on an interesting journey over the last decade; the series is widely regarded as not only one of the best efforts from PlatinumGames, but also one of the best hack-and-slash titles ever produced. Since 2016 however, fans have been left starved for the awaited third entry.

The shift in the franchise's direction began when Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Wii U exclusive. Some were disappointed that Bayonetta was now a Nintendo-exclusive franchise; after all, it had arrived on PS3 and Xbox 360 first back in 2010. According to the developer themselves, Nintendo offered to fund production costs and they accepted a deal.

When the Wii U fell flat in both sales and success, the fate of the franchise was left in question. However, following Nintendo's resurgence with the Switch, Bayonetta 3 was announced for the system in 2017. The community was certainly pleased with the news, but since then there has been no sign of the upcoming sequel.

Perhaps it may be down to utilising the Switch's unique features? Or Platinum may be occupied with their other current projects such as Babylon's Fall. In any case, both Platinum and Nintendo have remained frustratingly tight-lipped on Bayonetta 3 with little to go on beyond the debut trailer.
