10 Promising Video Game Sequels Stuck In Development Hell
4. Metroid Prime 4
Another Nintendo title to make the list, Metroid Prime was the most critically acclaimed and widely beloved trilogy across both the GameCube and Wii. After Corruption wrapped up the series however, the franchise ended up stuck in a creative rut. Many fans argue it's all been downhill since 2010's Metroid: Other M.
This made it all the more exciting when it was announced the first-person adventure series would be continuing with Metroid Prime 4. Announced at Nintendo's E3 2017 online showcase, a basic teaser made it clear that the series would be making a comeback at some point in the future.
Bandai Namco Games was tasked with producing the title in the early stages, but since 2017, nothing concrete has emerged, despite Reggie Fills-Aime stating that development was proceeding well. Series veteran Kensuke Tanabe was still attached, but as the months wore on, anticipation levels began to wane.
Eventually, Metroid Prime 4 was moved back to Retro Studios in January 2019 to restart its development. Details surrounding the decision are unknown, though again it may come down to making the title work with the Switch's hardware. As the end of 2020 draws near, the game remains in development hell with no sign of a full release.
