10 Promising Video Game Sequels That Completely Killed Their Franchises

1. Mass Effect Andromeda

Mass Effect Andromeda
Bioware

Mass Effect Andromeda has effectively put the whole of the beloved Mass Effect series on hold because of how broken of a game it was. One bad release has tarnished the name of both Mass Effect and BioWare, which is incredible when you think of how beloved these two were previously.

It's not just that Mass Effect Andromeda was a buggy, unfinished mess, the game itself was a downgrade from what made the originals so inspiring. The dialogue is stilted, the animations are awful and the characters aren't interesting in the slightest.

Combat and exploration may have been improved, but the missions themselves all feel repetitive and lacking in any real spirit. The lack of any motivation to help the inhabitants of these worlds makes playing the game feel like ticking off a checklist of boring, menial tasks.

After the critical panning of Andromeda, EA announced that the Mass Effect series would be going on hold for some time. Considering BioWare are now working on Paragon, it seems extremely unlikely that we'll get to see a new entry in this once beloved series for some time.
