10 Promising Video Game Sequels That Completely Killed Their Franchises

6. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Pitchforks down everyone. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts may be a pretty fun game in its own right, but it absolutely destroyed the image of both Banjo-Kazooie and Rare for some time.

This is especially disappointing considering the fact that Nuts and Bolts can actually be pretty good fun if you enjoy the car mechanics. The creativity, humour and charm shine through this hybridised third-person exploration/vehicle-bashing mashup, which makes it especially frustrating that Rare had to use Banjo-Kazooie to represent it.

Nobody wanted this from their favourite platforming duo. Everybody begged for the return of 'real' Banjo-Kazooie because of the amazing platforming and huge, interesting worlds. We did get big interesting worlds, but the brand new focus on car mechanics and building made it feel like a different series entirely. This simply wasn't what anybody wanted.

At least we have Yooka-Laylee right? Oh wait...
