10 Promising Video Games That Totally Botched Their Launch

One of the most famous and lambasted video game launches of the generation has to go to Assassin's Creed: Unity. One of the more anticipated Assassin's Creed games of recent years, Unity was the first game in the series built solely for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC - meaning developer Ubisoft could utilise all that extra power in creating a stunningly believable game world. To some extent, they did just that.

While Unity succeeded in turning the French Revolution into the series' prettiest setting by far at that point, the game launched in an incredibly broken state. Most notably, characters would often lack complete faces, sporting instead a nightmarish visage of just their eyes and mouth, floating in front of some hair. Other issues included the game's connectivity features failing, and the main character falling through the floor.

Ubisoft's shares dropped after a number controversies surrounding the game's launch, including the company pushing the review embargo until after the game's release.

After the bungled launch, Ubisoft stated that moving forward it would provide early access to some of its games in an attempt to avoid a situation like Unity's again.
