10 Promising Video Games Totally Ruined By Microtransactions

1. Star Wars Battlefront II

Assassins Creed Odyssey
EA

Quite possibly the most infamous game of all time from the most infamous publisher of all time when it comes to scummy, money-grubbing schemes, Star Wars Battlefront II was raked across the coals by a company eager to skim every last dime from the pockets of its player base.

Consumers were totally appalled by the incredible reliance on microtransactions when the game released in beta in fall of 2017, and things were so bad that EA actually had to revoke these in-game purchases from the experience in order to quell what still ended up being one of the most notable fan outcries of the last few years.

Star Wars Battlefront II was clearly built from the ground up to sell its players in-game currency and loot boxes. Literally everything from character skins to weapon upgrades came from these star cards, and players weren’t happy in the slightest.

Microtransactions eventually made their way back to the game in April of 2018, but the damage had already been done. The title’s sales had suffered, and EA had made a blunder from which it is still struggling to recover.
