New: $400 | Used: $100 No rare games list would be complete without a good old-fashioned Japanese schmupp - a fast-paced vertical-scrolling shooter that usually sees you in control of some kind of laser-firing gunships. These games have traditionally been hugely popular in Japan, but have rarely broken through in western markets. The PSX was a fantastic console for shmupps, and Zanac X Zanac is a fine example of one. It has a great arsenal of vehicles to choose from, awesome background scenery, and a pumping hard techno soundtrack that makes you want to grit your teeth as you gun down fleets of airborne baddies and bosses. As a nice little bonus, the original NES version of Zanac is included on the disc. This game only ever came out in Japan, where it was largely drowned out by the huge number of other shmupps on offer. It only came to gamers' attention some years later, and subsequently skyrocketed in value.
