April Fools' Day is a difficult time for those seeking genuine gaming news, because there's a good chance that everything you'll read that day will end up being false.

Let's say you happened to read a story about a brand-new Pokémon game coming to the Switch later in the year. A quick glance at the calendar would lead you to assume that this information is false, and a second glance at the source - the notoriously sketchy 4chan - would only solidify that assumption.

For many gamers, this exact scenario played out on April Fools' Day 2018, when a 4chan user claimed that a remake of Pokémon Yellow was set to launch on the Switch in the coming months, with two versions planned: Pikachu, and Eevee.

Given both the date and the source, most people, understandably, dismissed the leak entirely. But hilariously... it was 100% real.

Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee did indeed launch in 2018, with the leaker also accurately predicting other details too, like Pokémon Go integration, and a new accessory that can be used with the games.

Talk about some next-level trolling.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
