Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time remake was officially unveiled in September 2020. It's a very real game with a very real release date (and fingers crossed it actually keeps this one), but once upon a time, its existence was highly doubted.

Well before it was properly announced by Ubisoft, the project was actually leaked on Reddit in a March 2020 post. The leaker got several details right too, including actor Yuri Lowenthal's return to the title role, and some new twists on the gameplay.

The leak was quickly labelled as "fake" by other members of the same subreddit, and the comments on the original post consist almost entirely of doubters - like the one grumpy chap who called the leaker a "garbage low IQ liar". Bit mean.

Obviously, this whole thing looked incredibly sketchy, but at the same time, The Sands Of Time is a beloved game, and Prince Of Persia is a franchise that's long overdue for a comeback.

Couple that with today's remake-obsessed entertainment culture, and the leak did seem like it could be true - and sure enough, it was.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
