The craziest thing about Doom's beta is just that: this is just a beta. With two simple maps and a handful of modes, Id have given players more hours of enjoyment than some games do in their entire life-cycles.

Hell, we still don't know all of the secrets and surprises that even this small section of the Doom experience has to offer, so who knows what else the game will have in store when it finally releases in May.

Although things can of course change between now and the day of release, we can't see Doom being anything other than an extremely enjoyable old-school shooter. And in an age of bloated, repetitive and over-produced blockbuster franchises, a nostalgic throwback to a simpler time is just what gamers need.
