Old-school arena shooters are a dime-a-dozen on PC, but the console world hasn't seen anything of the sort in years. Especially on next-gen consoles, there's virtually no title providing currently an experience that's about the simple joy of blowing up other players in such a compact, cerebrally-intense way.

As a result, Doom's old-school stylings makes it feel more refreshing than any other shooter out there. It's not simple nostalgia that makes it good either, because Id have improved on the formula conjured up decades ago, modernising it just enough for a contemporary audience.

It makes for the perfect mix of old and new, taking the systems we expect to see in an online shooter in 2016 and blending them with pure, old-school gameplay
