10 Reasons God Of War Is The PS4's Best Exclusive
5. The Groundbreaking One-Shot Camera
Much has been made of God of War's ambitious one-shot camera trick, whereby the game largely unfolds through one single, unbroken shot.
While it's fair to say that the trick is "cheated" a few times - realm transitions often result in the screen turning white, likely disguising the game loading - for almost the entirety of the game, it's a staggering feat that's pulled off seamlessly with no loading screens (unless you die).
It's little surprise the camera was nearly scrapped due to its technical complexity, but considering how much more immersive it makes the experience, it was certainly well worth the engineering headaches it doubtless caused.
The result is that we're with Kratos and Atreus for the entire journey, never being pulled away to observe something that they can't. It creates an overall more intimate gameplay experience, which given the game's greater devotion to its characters, is crucial.
It's a revolutionary enough system, melding cut-scenes and gameplay as it does, that it'll likely become heavily adopted by other action and adventure games in the near-future.
