10 Reasons Mafia 3 Is The Best Open-World Game In Years

7. That Soundtrack

I don't care what anyone says, the modern GTAs have infinitely inferior soundtracks to the likes of Vice City and San Andreas (even Vice City Stories nails GTA IV and V's selections to the wall). So enter Mafia III, and one of the first big-budget open-world games to actually focus on an untapped era (the 60s), doing it the utmost justice by ramming the radio with songs everyone knows and loves.

You've got everything from Hendrix to Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Beach Boys to The Rolling Stones. It's nothing short of exemplary, and the first time you take part in a rainswept car chase, dodging traffic and zipping under streetlights as Little Richard's Long Tall Sally blares out across the city, you'll be hooked.

Add to that a fantastic score by Jesse Harlin and Jim Bonney that underpins the tone of everything with some Joe Bonamassa-esque atmospheric guitars, and you've got a backdrop that has just as much character as those doing the talking.
