9. The Characters
Where Resident Evil has mostly put you in the shoes of highly trained special agents and muscle bound lunks over the years, Silent Hill instead gives you a series of deeply flawed protagonists, each with their own compelling and often shocking backstories to uncover. It's almost unfair to compare them: Resident Evil could hardly be called a character-driven series, after all. Its stellar cast of one-dimensional heroes and pantomime villains is entertaining enough, but it doesn't stand up to Silent Hill's set of tortured and believable personalities.
