10 Reasons The Evil Within 2 Is The Best Survival Horror Of The Decade
8. A Perfect Balance Of Psychological Horror And Gore
The original Evil Within was a great game overall, but it wasn't exactly scary. Relying on the same old iconography and designs that fans have become accustomed to (oh look, another guy chasing me with a chainsaw!), the horror was too rote to be terrifying.
Replacing this focus on body horror and gore with psychological terror, The Evil Within 2 fortunately doesn't fall into the same trap. Being free to be as surreal and crazy as possible, the sequel paints the picture of a completely unhinged reality that's seemingly been designed to mess with main character Sebastian.
Consequently, the game isn't just a string of different grotesque monsters being thrown at the screen until its full of blood and guts (although there's still plenty of that too), but instead packed with little bits of psychological horror that are designed to unnerve you more than gross you out.
