10 Reasons The PlayStation Vita Was An Overlooked Gem

Vita, We hardly knew thee. A love letter to Sony's underappreciated handheld.

Despite it being 9 years since the PlayStation Vita was launched the handheld console is still worth picking up in 2020. Sony's last attempt into the handheld console market was met with hesitation from fans, especially when it was up against industry giant Nintendo in the handheld market with their 3DS. The Vita was absolutely overlooked on its launch despite having some great titles and features that made it stand out from its Nintendo counterpart.

From features such as remote play and titles on the system like Persona 4 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss the Vita, despite being given up on by Sony should not be given up on by gamers worldwide as it still has plenty of value that should not be forgotten as we head into the next generation of consoles and hardware.

This is an appreciation post to the Vita and everything it did right in its short shelf life, these 10 reasons will make you rethink the Playstation Vita and hopefully shed some light on Sony's underappreciated handheld.

10. Cross Platform Party Chat

Back before Discord was the essential way to chat to your friends while gaming, party chat on either the Xbox or the PlayStation was the way that you and your mates could all play individual games and still chat online. The only issue with this was that if you owned a PlayStation 3 and your buddy owned an Xbox 360, you were pretty much out of options if you wanted to chat while playing on different systems.

When Sony released the Vita back in 2011, they decided a good way to remedy this was to make it possible for you and your friends to have cross-party chat from your PlayStation 4 and your Vita.

At launch, this was a game-changer for handheld consoles. Before this you would have to have your home console on at the same time to be able to party chat, but no more! Now you could sit in an internet cafe and if you were on the Wifi, you could sit and people watch with your friends while they sat in the comfort of their own home.
