10 Reasons The Witcher 3 Truly Is Game Of The Year 2015

7. DLC Done Right (For Once)

There once was a time when downloadable content and expansions came well after a game€™s release. It gave players a reason to come back to a game long after they thought they'd seen everything, while simultaneously giving it more value. But those days are long gone, and now DLC is more often than not cynically and explicitly pre-planned content locked away in order to generate more profit. The Witcher 3 is that rare exception nowadays. Instead of overpricing small pieces of relatively valueless DLC over a long period of time, developer CD Projekt RED has invested in two lengthy expansion packs that will significantly add onto an already large game. The first expansion, Hearts of Stone, has already proven to be a worthy supplement to the game. Not only does it add a host of new gameplay features, but it contains some of the best storytelling even by the standards of the original release. It€™s superb, well worth your money, and only makes you look forward to the second pack even more. Also, it€™s not like The Witcher 3 doesn€™t have fluff DLC, but the difference is that all the previous stuff has been free. And this is a key difference between The Witcher 3 and every other AAA game released this year; its DLC has genuine value, is appropriately priced, and most importantly, is part of a business model that respects the customer. Now that should be applauded.
