10 Reasons We're Still Playing Borderlands

7. Awesome Loot

Just like any game with a coloured loot tier system, most items you pick up quickly become vendor trash. One of the most refreshing differences with Borderlands, however, was the sheer variety of differences between weapons. This would often ensure you'd never have the same weapon as any of your friends - every item you picked up would be slightly different, whether it be an extra point or two of damage or some kind of elemental effect, and would consequently encourage trading between other players. In addition, the game did a great job of balancing the drop rate of the rarest items; you never felt as though a good item was completely unreachable, but you did have to work for it.
