10 Reasons Why Quake Is The Hardest FPS Of All Time

2. Champions

If Quake was not complex enough, character abilities were introduced in Quake Champions, which add a whole new layer of intricacy to the game. The champions also have varying amounts of health and armor and as mentioned previously, adopt different forms of movement. This means that new players will not only have to learn how to play the champions themselves but also figure out how to play against them.

Although I was personally against the decision to add 'champions', it was arguably the next logical step considering that there were always different characters in the game and hero shooters were the flavor of the time. Instead of helping to bring in new players, however, it acted to make an already overwhelming game even more so. Not only that, but it upset the current fan base who felt that it was no longer the Quake that they knew and loved, especially in regards to changes made to the duel format.

The problem with Quake Champions is that id did not know for whom they were making the game, but that is a discussion for another time.

Ever since I saw BJ grin as he picked up the chain gun in Wolfenstein 3D, I've been hooked on video games. My first love, however, was Counter-Strike 1.3 and I would beg my mom to take me to Internet cafés just so I could play it. The other two games that captured my heart were World of Warcraft and Quake, though I play all sorts of games (especially of the competitive multiplayer type). Oh, and I love dwarves and write fantasy stories about them in my free time.
