10 Reasons Why The PS4 DOMINATED This Console Generation
9. Early Xbox One Mistakes
As much as Sony deserves credit for the way they handled the launch of the PlayStation 4 and its strategy going forward, it would not have been as overwhelmingly successful if not for the major mismanagement of the Xbox One.
First, all versions of the Xbox One would come with the Kinect: a device nobody was excited for. Then, it was revealed that the Xbox One always had to be online in order to play games and the Kinect would always be switched on. This created huge concerns for gamers as this opened up the possibility of being spied on through the Kinect and DRM (digital rights management) constantly looming over all of their games.
On top of these early concerns was the dreadful marketing of the Xbox One. The console was being sold as an all-purpose entertainment system rather than a gaming console. It felt like the Xbox One was prioritising other entertainment services over its gaming capabilities.
The price for these early mistakes was obvious, as the PlayStation 4 took a lead in the console wars that it would never lose.
