Microsoft deserves credit for being able to offer Sony stiff competition in the console wars, especially during the successful years of the Xbox 360. The shortcomings of the PlayStation 3 demonstrated perfectly what happens when you do not offer a steady and reliable supply of what gamers are demanding. That all changed with the PlayStation 4.
Right from the get go, Sony established that the PS4 was going to put gamers and its games first, which was captured perfectly in their early marketing slogans, “For the players.” A simple, but straightforward and effective message to gamers everywhere that the PS4 was where you needed to go if you wanted the best that modern gaming had to offer. (The slogan would later change to “Greatness Awaits”, which many could interpret as being arrogant, but also deserved given the success of the PS4 at the time.)
This resonated with gamers the world over as PS4 sales started to pick up in the middle of its lifespan. This was also helped by the PS4’s friendlier user interface, larger install base and healthy selection of games.
