3. Dragons
In the build up to Skyrim's release last year, lead developer Todd Howard was constantly questioned about the appearance of dragons in the game. Once their inclusion was confirmed, this questioning only increased. Howard stated that there were two things Elder Scrolls fans were constantly requesting for the fifth instalment; multiplayer and dragons. Thought multiplayer was not included in Skyrim, dragons were and I personally feel like this was the better one to add, especially after ten months playing the game. The first encounters you have with a dragon in game will be scripted and only occur at a certain stage. After this, though, dragons can attack you at their will and a jaunty stroll across a grassy plain can quickly turn into a fight for your life. As your character progresses and gets stronger, so too do the dragons you face. Each encounter will be fraught with danger and peril and if you don't have a good strategy to deal with these wicked foes, you'll quickly find yourself dead. The inclusion of dragons in the game ties strongly into the main story, but players were relieved to find that the random encounters with them don't end once they have finish these main quests. And since most players finish the Alduin quest before reaching level 30, this is certainly a good thing. The dragons you face will be determined by your level, meaning that even after defeating Alduin you may face a dragon in the wild that is more powerful than any you've ever fought. These exciting, dynamic and unpredictable battles are another reason we're still playing Skyrim.
