Tie-in games suck. Just a totally undisputed fact - Spider-Man 2 aside. Of course, gone are the days where the only tie-in games came from big budget films that spawned hastily-made - but still too expensive - games for the PS2 generation. Today you will still find the big movie/tv tie in game - but increasingly only online and in the mobile market.

Recognisable names like Marvel, LEGO, Star Wars, The Walking Dead and even bliddy Minions are just some that have multiple games holding fast in mobile gaming charts.

Gaming studios themselves are cottoning onto the fact that having a great addictive game is one thing, but having recognisable faces of Marvel heroes plastered all over it is a win-win. To their credit, we are getting some incredibly fun and diverse games through mobile. Marvel Avengers Academy has the best Marvel game dialogue in years & WWE Immortals still hits me in the “No-one would have made this on anything but mobile” part of my fevered brain.

Now, I'm not saying big names in the gaming industry is an automatic path to success, which brings me onto my next point...

Phoenix lives in the North East of England and gets paid to hide that fact in voiceovers. She's also a writer, a/v editor and someone who spends a frankly ridiculous amount of time gaming. She can't resist an amiibo. She will talk your ear off about videogames, wrestling, comics, bad films and My Little Pony.
