10 Reasons You Were Wrong About GTA IV

8. Questions Of Morality

As part of the main storyline, players were asked at numerous points to choose between two polarising options for how to deal with a particular person or event. These populate the action with some truly tough decisions, and the best of them would have left players really scratching their heads as to whether or not they had chosen the 'right' answer. The first players encounter is whether or not to kill the Vlad's henchman Ivan, or to look kindly and spare his life. Even though this decision seems obvious given the character's association with antagonist Vlad, there's still the slightest nagging doubt following players at the moment the game puts the outright decision to them. It's likely most of you reading this ultimately chose to off the poor soul, but sparing his life yields a playable random encounter later in the game as Niko bumps into him again. Interestingly Ivan, if spared, cuts all ties from his former life with the mafia and takes up a slightly more reputable employment. The way these decisions shape the future of Liberty City and its inhabitants in the game shows just how much depth Rockstar put into the events of GTA IV.
