10 Reasons You're Wrong About Destiny

5. Journeying Back To The Tower Is Supposed To Be Done Sparingly

As you may be thinking at this point in the article, for as much as Destiny was somewhat expected to be this gigantic all-consuming orgasm-doling pleasurefest for everyone from the multi-year COD-devotee to those who bought a shiny new console and want something suitably shiny to play on it - it's actually a far more targeted experience aimed squarely at a very specific person in terms of longevity. That is to say, alongside not minding having your story hidden away from you - with what is there being delivered by a variety of actors doing their best Peter Molyneux impersonation - and strict reliance on repetitive mission structures, checking back in at the central hub Tower is something that you need to treat less as a destination between every mission, and more as something you'll do after a lengthy stint across the galaxy. One of the biggest complaints so far are the lengthy load times, and although you can't get away from them altogether, if you're choosing to get the game to load the entire Tower area - complete with multiple players exploring simultaneously alongside all the communication possibilities that come with it - in between every single mission, we'd say you're doing it wrong. Instead if you 'role-play' a little and take on the traits of the Guardian you're embodying, you're supposed to depart from HQ for a few missions' worth of time across a variety of planets, factoring in some multiplayer matches, strike missions, side-quest-filled Patrols and replayable story missions. That way you'll accrue a good amount of encrypted Engrams that you can exchange for weapons, armour and class items, alongside completed bounties that'll get you Vanguard marks and points for better armour, plus a sizeable amount of the game's base currency of Glimmer for everything in between. As soon as you start treating your time in Destiny as being one cog in a gigantic war machine alongside scores of other Guardians who are also departing on their own missions before returning hours later with numerous bounties and glimmer to spend for the day, it all starts to fall into place. The Tower can be a great place to hang out, form Fireteams and indulge in the spectacular art direction Bungie has poured into everything, and over time you'll start treating it as more of a meaningful place to take five, rather than an elaborate pause screen hidden behind a lengthy load time.
