10 Reasons Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is STILL The Best Game Of The Generation
9. Weather
Now, before you get angry at me, know that I’ve struggled with the weather in this game as much as you. I understand the frustration when you just need to climb a small cliff to get to your next objective and the rain starts pouring, or worse yet, when it happens while you’re already halfway up a mountain and you know your fate has been sealed. But that frustration adds a new obstacle to exploring the map which clever and bored players alike will seek to find a way around rather than waiting for the downpour to subside.
And the rain isn’t the only weather condition which adds a new level of innovation to the game. From the very start, players will have to endure a mixture of freezing cold and boiling hot climates and either dress accordingly, which can cost a great deal, or get smart. For example, holding a torch or fire weapon in icy terrain will keep Link warm and vice versa with a cold weapon in the Gerudo Desert.
You better act quick if there’s a thunderstorm too, since having any metal items equipped when the lightning rolls in will leave you susceptible to a pretty brutal shock. For the strategic players however, a good tip is to throw a metal weapon at an enemy just as the lightning is about to hit for a shocking amount of damage!
Overall this weather system is still one of the most innovative in games today, forcing players to adapt to a new way of thinking.
