No More Heroes 3's first boss fight against Mr. Blackhole is a surprisingly tricky one, largely because it comes early enough in the game that players haven't had much time to acclimate to the combat mechanics.

Beyond this, Blackhole hits hard and often, and as is incredibly rare for a first boss in any video game, he's also got three phases, meaning the fight can last a pretty damn long time.

Anyone expecting him to be a mere tutorial boss likely fell quickly at his hand. His black hole-like portals can be majorly disorientating to unsuspecting players, and once he's down to half-health, he'll whip out a more powerful ranged attack.

Even on Normal/Bitter difficulty, you can easily die numerous times before taking him down, while on higher difficulty settings he's a major pain in the ass.

The fight is certainly fun to a point - especially during the amusingly ridiculous space shooter-esque phase - but this enjoyment is always juggled with a sure sense of frustration.
