While the comics have been trying to rehabilitate Poison Ivy for years, the Arkham games - for the most part - mainly kept her to her traditional incarnation as a hardcore baddie. While the flavor text of Arkham City did show her trying to go straight, it also showed that it didn't last very long at all.

But then Arkham Knight came out and tried to jump on the "you know, maybe she ain't all that bad" bandwagon the rest of Batman comics had been on for almost two decades at that point. Near the end of the game, Scarecrow releases a bunch of fear toxin across literally all of Gotham, making the city basically uninhabitable.

In order to stop Scarecrow, Batman has to team up with Poison Ivy, who has a way to stop Scarecrow's plan and remove the fear toxin from Gotham. However, doing this ends up costing her her life. Pamela Isley dies in Batman's arms, her final words being "nature always wins".
