10 Ridiculous Gaming Rumours That Were Total Lies

1. Lara Croft's Nude Code - Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider Badass though that Akuma rumour is, it still has to bow down to the Queen Mother of non-existent cheat codes, and that's the Lara Croft nude code. Yes, because gaming was still very much sexist and androcentric in the 1990s, if a woman played the hero in a game, she would almost certainly be subject to a sexual gaze, because most of the audience were hormonal teenage boys, and you can bet that the majority of the programmers were men (who may need to get out a little more). Since the release of the first Tomb Raider, young boys have been trying to get a glimpse of Lara Croft in the buff, and wasted countless hours performing elaborate tasks in that stead. If you were born in the late 80s or early 90s and claim not to have done this, I just don't believe you. Of course, with the newer games, the modding community has ensured that some freakishly "realistic" nude modifications are available, but as for an endorsed cheat, no dice. And given the climate of video gaming at present - where sexism is a hot-button issue - don't expect it to happen any time soon. If you truly need to sate your curiosity, you know where Google is...
